City Point/Long Wharf

If you've ever had the pleasure of driving through the city of New Haven along Interstate 95 you've seen glimpses of the City Point/Long Wharf neighborhood. Long Wharf gets it's name from it's history. Prior to the construction of Interestates 95 and 91, this area of the city was a wharf that stretch 3/4 of a mile and was considered to be the longest in the country.

A largely commerical and industrial neighborhood, City Point/Long Wharf is home to a number of unique buildings and businesses including Marcel Breuer's landmark Armstrong Rubber/Pirelli Tire Building which was built in 1969 and was later truncated to make room for the IKEA which sits beside the famous building.

City Point/Long Wharf stretches along the shores of Long Island Sound and gives residents an opportunity to enjoy beautiful vistas of the sound from the seventeen acre Vietnam Veteren's Memorial Park.

The neighborhood is also New Haven's transportation hub as it is home to Union Station which has train service to New York City and the rest of the Eastern Seaboard.
